We can offer mechanical design for your projects. Whether this be stand-alone complete design projects, problem solving or even supplementing your existing design, we’ll be able to help you. At a basic level this means 3D design with 2D drawing output in your preferred formats. Beyond that we can offer feasibility studies, simulation, animations, graphical marketing material, data sheets, DFMEA’s, comprehensive design notes, manuals and technical file content. Precisely Designed has extensive experience designing heavy machinery, rotating equipment, special purpose assembly machinery, products, precision mechanisms, electronics packaging, cooling and industrial hardware to name but a few. A significant amount of this experience has been built up in the Comminution industry but also spells in automotive manufacturing, automotive electronics and industrial hardware.
Predominantly we design using Solidworks but our USP is 15 years plus of building an understanding of best design working practices for delivery of the right solution in the most efficient manner possible. We always push to discover better methods rather than accept something that merely works. This allows us to be highly competitive in offering fully engineered solutions in terms of 3D modelling, renderings, simulated design analysis, comprehensive drawings, tolerance stack ups and GD&T analysis. We have even produced 3D animations and interactive manuals.
We’re Solidworks license holders and although that software is our bread and butter we are also well versed with Autodesk Inventor or we can take your 2D AutoCAD drawings and produce 3D models from them. If you need us to integrate with another package, get in touch. Adapting has never been a problem.
DESIGN PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
It’s unusal to encounter a design department making full use of the tools available to them to maximise efficiency and quality of their work. We have a great deal of experience utilising some of the software and features that are often freely available to really boost output. This can range from designing automated, intelligent document templates through to writing complex macros to eradicate repetitive tasks. Sometimes the smallest of tweaks to working practices can make a very big difference in terms of freeing up design time. We have many years of experience managing design departments and process engineering as a whole so not only do we understand the importance of efficiency, but we know how to find it.
We can make suggestions and proposals for your business either as a side-line to working on a design project or we can carry out a dedicated process audit culminating in a report and proposal of changes. Often it is possible to accurately quantify how much design resource can be freed up by our suggestions and the swiftness of pay back can be quite an eye opener.
NEW DESIGN PROCESS IMPLEMENTATION
This is a step beyond maximizing efficiency within your existing software investments. This is about identifying and implementing new tools that can transform your business.
One example might be the introduction of Driveworks (similar to iLogic for Inventor Users). The Driveworks suite of software is an extremely powerful configuration tool that can work stand-alone but really comes into its own when paired with Solidworks and is something that Precisely Designed is very passionate about. Driveworks allows us to produce totally bespoke 3D CAD models and associated drawings and documents by choosing options from a selection form. This means that you (or your customer) can specify a highly customised piece of equipment from an interactive menu and a full set of manufacturing documents can be produced with no engineering resource required in the interim.
Not only that, we can take it a step further. Using Driveworks you can calculate exact costs or generate an automatic quotation in real time.
The ultimate implementation of Driveworks would allow you to have a full web based 3D configuration tool where your customer can pre-visualise their exact specification and even place an order there and then. This goes well beyond engineering and becomes a very powerful marketing tool.

At Precisely Designed we have also implemented automated inspection systems using Testplan and other apps where, upon publication of a drawing, an excel file is also automatically exported for use during component inspection. It identifies upper and lower limits for key dimensions, and when the ‘as measured’ box is completed it can give an instant indicator of whether something falls in or out of tolerance. It can also be used to generate batch reports or keep historical manufacturing data.
Or perhaps, like many other companies, you are ready to move past traditional 2D drawings and embrace direct manufacturing from 3D models. MBD (Model based definition) is becoming an increasingly popular method for streamlining the process of taking design to manufacture.
